Melissa Barber uses inspiration from the East to create her new exhibition. Drawing on the patterns of nature, her work is reminiscent of stylised Japanese woodblock prints and screens, with a beautiful sheen adding a new dimension. “I love the effect of metallic paints,” says Melissa. “This whole exhibition is about using it to create the mood and drawing people to the paintings.” Nature is at the heart of much of her work, with an emphasis on flowers. “I take inspiration from Ikebana – the Japanese art of flower arranging,” she says. “Composition is very important and I focus on the balance of negative space versus detail.”
