Arches Kate’s earlier works shows the influence of cityscapes versus the human form and she often uses windows in a semi abstract way. This reflects an interest in the public versus the private being. The use of windows also explores the concept of the isolation, which can exist in a busy city. In her first solo exhibition "Journeys" (2005 ), based on overseas travel, the older buildings seem to have a humanity that modern buildings don’t possess. Kate hasn’t incorporated figures in this series. There is a greater sense of tranquillity in this series than in modern cityscapes. Here she has concentrated more on capturing the sense of history, the light and the beautiful textures on the building facades. In Kate’s second solo show (2006 ) entitled ‘Perspectives’ she pursued her attraction to subject matter which draws the viewer deeper into the composition. This was a natural extension from some of the themes covered in her first solo. Kate has participated in a all of Gallery Oscar's group shows as well as at the Art Shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane since 2004.
In more recent times, Kate has further explored the theme of perspectives and the way in which certain viewpoints can increase the drama of a composition, drawing the viewer into the painting. Rather than creating a three dimensional effect, whereby the painting seems to come forward from the canvas, she attempts to lure the viewer into the scene portrayed. These works have been more representational than earlier works, which tended more to the semi abstract. Kate enjoys painting both the abstract and the more representational.
